Designing spaces: the entrance

“We often neglect it: we store our shoes there, leave the wet umbrella there, toss our keys down and hang up our coat”

And yet it is the 1st room of your home; you pass through it every day, sometimes several times, and it is the 1st impression, the 1st image your guests have of you when they step into your house. We often underestimate the importance of looking after our entrance.

Here are 2-3 quick tips to pimp up your entrance!

-Rule number 1: Storage! A messy space is a space in which energy stagnates and weakens. So we buy a small shelf or a shoe cabinet, and hang a few pretty hooks for coats (without covering them so much that you can no longer see the wall, if possible) and bags. We buy a little basket to hide the clutter if it really is a disaster and there are too many things to hide (umbrella, bag cover, slippers…), and most importantly a small tray or bowl for your keys and loose change!

-Rule number 2: Dress it up, brighten it up. Avoid a mirror facing the door – a basic rule so as not to send the incoming energy back outside. Since your entrance is the 1st image of you in your home, place one or more objects there that reflect who you are, that represent you, and that you will enjoy looking at as you come home. A lovely frame if you walk in facing a wall, a shelf or a pedestal table with a travel souvenir, a small light, a bunch of flowers (not dried! bring in some life…) – in short, have fun. You can also put a small rug on the floor to warm everything up. 

-Rule no. 3: Colour, again and always. Once again, choose a colour that reflects who you are, that you won’t tire of, and on the bright side, especially if your space is small.  

You can also paint half the wall – the bottom in colour, the top in white – to add a livelier touch of colour without taking too many risks.
