Frequently asked questions

Your questions about projects and the studio

Architecture, renovation, interiors, planning permission, budget or a first conversation: here are the questions that come up most often before getting started. The answers are kept brief; a link leads to the relevant page when a subject deserves more context.

01 — Choosing & understandingFinding the right kind of support

Which kind of support should I choose for my project?

It all depends on how much transformation is needed:

  • Architecture: the building itself, a conversion, an extension, a new build, a feasibility study or a planning application.
  • Complete renovation: rethinking a house or flat as a whole.
  • Interior creation: spaces, layouts, volumes, materials, furniture and atmosphere.
  • Hospitality: restaurants, cafés, guesthouses and hotels.
  • Brand collaborations: bringing a brand’s world to life in a space.

If you are not sure yet, the contact form is there precisely to help steer your request.

What is the difference between an architect and an interior architect?

The architect works on the building: architectural design, conversion, extension, construction and, depending on the project, the planning application. The interior architect works on the organisation of spaces, volumes, circulation, materials, lighting, furniture and atmosphere.

At Ve Atelier, Marion leads Architecture; Victoria leads interior architecture and artistic direction. The two areas of expertise come together when the project requires it, without systematically being combined.

Why choose a practice that brings together architecture and interior architecture?

Because a successful project does not stop at the façade or the floor plan.

By bringing these two areas of expertise together within a single team, we ensure a coherent vision of the project. Architectural choices and interior fit-out are considered together from the outset, which allows for:

  • better optimisation of space;
  • aesthetic coherence between interior and exterior;
  • fewer intermediaries and simpler communication;
  • quicker decisions;
  • a single point of support throughout the project.

You benefit from a single point of contact and a holistic approach.

Does it cost more?

Not necessarily.

Combining architecture and interior architecture from the start often helps avoid changes midway through the project, design errors or additional works.

Each assignment is tailored to your needs. You choose the level of support that suits you, according to your budget and your expectations.

Do all projects run from design through to site supervision?

No. The scope depends on the need and on the commission. Some projects focus mainly on interior design; others require a complete renovation, an Architecture commission or more extensive follow-up. The stages included are defined at the outset: the complementarity between Architecture and interiors does not mean that full support is systematically provided.

How does a project with Ve Atelier unfold?

It depends on the commission. In a complete renovation, the project goes through an assessment of the place, design, budget decisions, any formalities, preparation of the works and, when included, site supervision. In interior creation, the work is organised around framing, exploration, refinement and synthesis. In Architecture, the stages may include feasibility, design, any planning application, studies, contractor tendering and the building site, depending on the scope.

Each page explains how it works: Architecture, Renovation, Interior creation.

Who will look after my project: Victoria or Marion?

It depends on the need. Victoria leads interior architecture, artistic direction and the creative world; Marion leads the Architecture expertise. A project focused on the interior will be approached differently from an architectural conversion or a planning application, and both areas of expertise can work together on the same project. You do not need to choose the right person yourself before contacting us.

02 — Planning permissionBuilding-related procedures

Do I need planning permission?

It depends on the nature of the works, the property and the region. In Brussels as in Wallonia, some works require planning permission, while others fall under different rules or exemptions. Ve Atelier can identify the points to check as part of an Architecture commission, but an FAQ cannot reliably determine the case of your project without looking at its context.

Regulatory information should always be checked against the applicable official sources.

Can Ve Atelier handle my planning application?

Yes, when preparing the application falls within the scope of the Architecture commission. The studio prepares the architectural documents within its remit and supports the application. The decision to grant planning permission, however, lies with the competent authority: it cannot be guaranteed.

How far in advance should I start in order to obtain planning permission?

The sooner, the better.

Between the first sketches, the discussions, preparing the planning application, the time the authorities take to process it and scheduling the contractors, several months may pass before work begins.

For a renovation or construction project, it is advisable to start the process between 6 and 12 months before the date you would like work to begin. It can sometimes take longer (2 years), depending on the municipality.

How much does planning permission cost?

The cost of planning permission depends on several factors:

  • any local council fees;
  • the nature and scale of the project;
  • any additional studies that may be required;
  • the fees for preparing the application.

There is therefore no single rate.

At our first meeting, we explain the costs to expect and give you a transparent quote tailored to your project.

03 — Budget & guaranteesCosts, fees and the unexpected

How much does a project with Ve Atelier cost?

There is no single figure. The budget depends on the type of project, the size and condition of the place, the level of transformation, materials, technical constraints, any Architecture commission and the level of support. The studio’s fees correspond to the work actually commissioned and are separate from the overall budget for the works.

Do I need to know my budget before getting in touch?

No. If you already have a figure in mind, even a rough one, sharing it helps check that your expectations match the level of transformation envisaged. If not, simply say so in the form: the first conversation also serves to identify what needs clarifying.

Can you guarantee the budget or the timeline?

No. A project evolves with the design, the choices made, the formalities, the contractors consulted and the constraints discovered along the way. The studio’s role is to frame the project, make decisions clearer and support the trade-offs — which does not make it possible to guarantee that nothing unexpected will happen, a fixed budget or the same timeline for everyone.

04 — Projects & areasTypes of places and areas

Do you only work on residential projects?

No. Ve Atelier works on residential projects — houses and flats — as well as professional projects. On the professional side, the studio works in particular on Hospitality projects — restaurants, cafés, guesthouses and hotels — as well as brand collaborations and other spatial projects when their context matches its expertise.

Where does Ve Atelier work?

For renovation, interior creation, Hospitality and brand collaborations, Ve Atelier works mainly in Brussels and Walloon Brabant. For Architecture commissions, the priority area is Brussels and Wallonia. A few projects further afield or abroad can also be considered when they genuinely match the studio’s approach.

Do you still offer decor coaching, a well-being assessment or personal shopping?

No. These services were part of Ve Atelier’s history but are no longer among its current services. The studio is now organised around Architecture, Complete renovation, Interior creation, Hospitality and Brand collaborations.

05 — First conversationPreparing and booking

What should I prepare before the first conversation?

A few details are enough: location, type of property or place, approximate size, how far along you are, what you would like to transform, any building or planning questions already identified, approximate budget, timeline, and any plans, photos or references you have.

The project form gathers this information in a compact format. You do not need to have all the answers yet.

How do I book an appointment?

Start by briefly presenting your project through the contact form. The information helps prepare and steer your request; you will then be offered a first conversation with the studio.
