A cosy interior for winter

We all have a little corner at home where we love to spend time. A corner that is ours alone, where we feel good and love to switch off.

Sometimes, for lack of space, it is a corner that is an integral part of our bedroom or living room; for others, it is a separate, dedicated space, often set apart and  quiet. For the luckiest, it is quite simply their whole home!

This “cocoon corner”, “little temple” or “reading or zen corner” – call it whatever you like – is sometimes the top floor of your house, a corner of the living room or of your library; we place personal objects there, we like to gather our thoughts there, to find ourselves again. Sometimes it’s just one particular little corner, a frame with a candle – no need to take over an entire room!

Generally, with the arrival of winter, we try to make our interior warmer and cosier and to extend that cocoon feeling throughout the house.

Paying attention to your interior at this time of year has a particular effect on our well-being. The light fades quickly, and it is important to feel good at home so as not to give in to the gloom of the colder days.

Here are a few tips to make your interior, or one particular little corner, as cosy as can be:

When it comes to colours, there are two schools of thought: light tones or darker tones such as British racing green or teal,.. it all depends on the atmosphere you want. Both work; it all depends on your personality.

As for lighting, opt for several indirect light sources rather than a single overall one.

Even when it’s cold, air the rooms every day to refresh the air and get rid of humidity.

For the decoration, whether you have gone for light or dark walls, opt for a few touches of brighter colour (cushions, tableware, a vase, a frame, rugs, candles,..) to avoid ending up with a dull, overly monochrome interior, which can become boring, especially when the light fades. The watchword: contrast!

Equip yourself with comfortable, snug cushions and throws, which you can store in large wicker baskets, for example, or a wooden chest.

Don’t hesitate to surround yourself with potted plants or fresh flowers,

Fairy lights are more than welcome for a cosier atmosphere in the evening, especially at this time of year – Christmas or not, warm light is always welcome in an interior.

Let’s not forget candles, and any source of warmth that imitates fire – yes, go ahead, bring out the “fireplace” screensavers and the crackling fake fires, because real or not, they act on your subconscious and bring you a feeling of well-being.

The elements should be present in your home to connect you with nature and that evident sense of fulfilment: stone, wood, fire, water, plants.

May your winter be gentle and full of light.
