Designing spaces: the dressing room

designing-spaces-the-dressing-room

Not all of us are lucky enough to have a room specifically dedicated to our clothes. Sometimes it is a wardrobe in a bedroom or a study, or even just a rail in a room. Whatever your space, here are a few tips to define it and optimise storage!

 1. Maximising spatial efficiency:

There are smart storage solutions such as built-in shelves, drawers and hanging shelves to make the most of the space. It is important to declutter and organise your clothes as much as possible, so as to work out beforehand what you really need. There are professionals who can help you!

Short on budget? Shelves and rails fixed directly to the wall and concealed by a fine voile hung from a discreet ceiling track.

2. Adding personal touches:

a dressing room is quite a personal space, where you take care to gather together what makes up a large part of your identity. No room for a sequinned New Year’s jacket? Or a hat inherited from a wedding? Display it on the wall or on the back of a door! As well as giving it a place to be stored, you will be able to enjoy it visually; it will give personality to your space and bring back fond memories!

Let’s not forget mirrors, artworks and seating when it comes to adding character to the space.

4. Integrating technology:

Cupboard too dark? There is now a wide range of energy-efficient battery-powered lights to illuminate the inside of your wardrobe without much expense.

5. Creating a functional layout:

You go there at least twice a day. Make this space as functional as possible. The clothes you wear most should be within easy reach! T-shirts, underwear. Also, feel free to divide your dressing room into two sections: winter and summer. That way you can store what you don’t need in large boxes or IKEA-type bags and have more room for each season.

It is important to take your routine and daily habits into account when planning and fitting out your dressing room.

We tend not to attach much importance to this corner of our home, and yet it is important to take a thoughtful approach to creating a dressing room that reflects your personal style while maximising functionality and organisation.
