Oune

Oune is one of the commercial projects showcased by Ve Atelier.

The project was a falafel restaurant in Ixelles, Brussels, and was nominated at the Brussels Design Awards in 2021. This nomination is external evidence directly linked to Oune: it does not turn the studio as a whole into an award winner.

A legible identity built around the counter

The gallery shows a very prominent counter clad in a corrugated surface, paired with a speckled top, aqua green tones and a central plant feature. The whole gives the venue a recognisable identity without relying on intrusive signage.

In a food service space, the counter must both guide how the space is used and contribute to the atmosphere. It is this dual role that makes the project interesting.

A commercial project rooted in Ixelles

External sources identify Oune Falafel as an establishment on Place de Londres, in Ixelles. The page therefore places the project in a real Brussels urban setting. The restaurant has since closed; the page remains an archive of the spatial project.

Recognition to be put in context

Oune was nominated at the Brussels Design Awards in 2021. This distinction is presented as a nomination, without being turned into an award won.
